Garnet is NOT run by the State! It is managed by the Bureau of Land Management and all fees do stay right in town.

Yes, the state runs the park now, but it's funded in part (though probably not wholly) by use fees charged per person, all of which supposedly go to the park itself rather than into the general fund. And much of the items inside the buildings are period wares donated to the park itself, but weren't found there. But it was a photographer's heaven.

I'm definitely not done with Glacier NP, either. That place is amazing.

Fascinating—thanks for sharing your amazing photos. Am I correct in assuming this ghost town is a state museum or otherwise protected in some way? Seems like it'd have to be, else all those neatly arranged cans and bottles would've been all shot up by now.

You might one day go somewhere to the southwest (Arizona?) and plant the little cacti out in the desert. Centuries from now, perhaps after this civilization has fallen and a new one tentatively arises on the ashes of its remains, someone may happen upon it and by some means come to know that human hands laid a little plant in the sand long ago and the mighty green colossus standing before them is the product of that effort. I wonder what they would say, then? What if we were to learn that human hands put Pando where it now resides? I know I'm all afield of what you're saying, but I'm confident you'll take care of the little plants, and they, too, will witness the coming and going of a great many epochs.

Every time you feel the urge to water, go pet one of the cats. The urge becomes intense--- seek out both cats and pet them.

Don't do it! Maybe instead of watering you can satiate your desire to nurture them by playing them classical music while you're gone or something else non-aquatic.

I still haven't planted the cactus seeds Mr. Bill sent me over a year ago. I think I put it off because it is unlike any plant I've ever tended or had before. Maybe I'll dig those seeds out from under a stack of mail and sooner or later I can join your cacti-killin' party.
